This curious cabinet, twin\/sibling to the Wailee Horizontal<\/a> cabinet, is a similar build but arrived far less complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The monitor bezel was missing, no glass or perspex cover either. Most of the insides were in there but nothing was screwed down. So a bit more of a project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I call this one the vertical as that is how it’s monitor is oriented, but both cabs are fairly easy to swap between orientations (well as long as you can lift the heavy monitor and its bracket, of course).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While visiting one of my local mates, he had two spare bezels, so I grabbed them, and the first one I tried fit perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To test the tube, I swapped the one chassis I knew to be working (out of the other unit) and fired it up with the Jamma screen test board and a brand new modern power supply (after checking all of the voltages of course). Well, look at that, this tube seems to be in better condition than the other one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Encouraged by this (and with my mad fondness for vertical shoot ’em ups), I start to make this the primary unit, but soon come to a bit of a stop, the wiring seems to be very glitchy, other than the Jamma screen test board, I can’t get a game board working. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I grabbed a brand new good quality Jamma harness out and rewired the lot, and finally got a game working. Also replaced the fluro tube behind the marquee with a new LED one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The screen is quite well-focused and clear (it gets brighter as it warms up). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What’s next:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • I have ordered a sheet of Perspex to go over the monitor, and may still add a third player button, above and in the middle of the current buttons. I can easily replace the whole panel at some stage with a better button layout.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • I need to put the coin slot back together (it’s a little bent, as is the front door).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Need two metal strips, one for the top and another to lock in the control panel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    An update, the new Perspex sheet arrived (along with two sheets to allow a custom marquee to be used), and it really helps with the general look of the machine.\u00a0 Shown here is a new game for the IGS PGM arcade system, Kizuna Jigoku Tach, which I am liking more than Dodonpachi so far.<\/p>\n
