SVI Local Area Network

Published in 1984, this brochure detailed how Spectravideo computers could be put together as a local area network for use in classrooms.

It mentions a key piece of hardware (required in the master computer and each of the slave computers), a network card labelled as SVI-809 Network Interface Card (Expansion adapter needed for slave computers) for original Spectravideo machines, and SVI-709 Network Interface Card for any MSX computers.

The master station was listed as an SVI-606 Master Station, which included:

  • A 10MB Winchester Hard Drive
  • A 320k 5 1/4″ Floppy Drive
  • An 80-column card
  • A Parallel printer interface
  • 64k Dynamic RAM
  • RS-232-C interface cartridge
  • The LAN interface
  • and the LAN software

It would be interesting if one of these units existed in physical form, even if it was only a prototype.
