Well, this one is definitely a surprise out of left field. I have always been into shoot-em-ups, and the premium arcade cabinet for them has to be a Japanese ‘Candy’ cab. None better than one than a Sega Astro City, living on an Island south of mainland Australia, the option for such a beast being available here (and for a price I could afford) was up there with finding some rainbow unicorn poo 😉
But here we are, and a Sega Astro City is sitting in my arcade (I had to do some serious shuffling to fit it in – and I have since moved on one of my cabs).

This one is in really good condition; it has been restored by the previous owner, with him only letting it go as he needed the room for his next purchase.
The chassis does have vertical collapse, but I have already taken that out and sent it off to Jomac (in Western Australia) to be serviced. I am fine servicing cocktail cab and older 20″ monitors, but not one of these beasts (plus I want it working – I don’t need yet another project).
It is missing the side stickers, but I can easily source replacements.
It also comes with an arcade board I wasn’t familiar with, a Sega STV arcade board and the Die Hard Arcade game cartridge. It also has the Die Hard Arcade header and control card on the control panel.
I really have not seen this arcade platform before (basically an arcade version of the Sega Saturn hardware), but I have already ordered an eight-game multi-cart that has some of the shoot-em-up titles. I am looking forward to playing Die Hard Arcade for a while as well.
The previous owner kept his locks (as he has everything on the same keys – probably should look at that myself!), but I have already put a set of locks in.
