Asteroid Rescue Dev Update 6/01/2026

During the Christmas break, I dusted off one of my older projects, a game called ‘Asteroid Rescue’. It has some similarities to the arcade game Lunar Rescue, but with some different elements that make it its own game. The graphics and game concept were designed by Jim from Jim’s Byte Size Games, and the gameplay is split into two sections:

  • above ground, dodging various spaceships to land on a pad on the surface,
  • followed by navigating a robot through underground caverns, collecting fuel.

I have all of the above and below-ground level layouts completed, all of the animation code running (with some more animation sequences of the enemy ships to complete).

I have started on the basic gameplay mechanics for the ‘above-ground’ levels, and the start of background collision detection has been completed, so you can land on a pad.

Needs to be some more graduation in the speed of the lander, so you can traverse some more, collision detection with the solid walls, and of course, the aliens.

Then I can move on to the below-ground game logic. Which will slowly introduce more gameplay mechanics as you work through the levels.

This is a good game to get myself back into regular coding again, now that I seem to have recovered from my operation last year.

Another update soon.
